Why Cream Bronzer Works So Well on Mature Skin
Powder bronzers can settle into fine lines and emphasise texture, making skin look dull rather than sun-kissed. Cream formulas work differently. They melt into skin, move with it and give a natural flush of colour that mimics a real tan rather than a layer of product.
The Opretty Cream Bronzer was specifically formulated with drier, more mature skin in mind. The creamy base hydrates as it blends, leaving a soft luminous finish — never cakey, never heavy.
- Blends seamlessly into skin without dragging or pulling
- Buildable from a subtle everyday warmth to a deep summer glow
- Comfortable, skin-like finish that wears beautifully throughout the day
- Suitable for dry, dehydrated and mature skin types
How to Apply Cream Bronzer — The Opretty 3-Swipe Method
As a hairdresser and beauty founder with over 15 years working with clients of all ages, I developed the 3-Swipe Method because I kept seeing the same problem: bronzer applied in the wrong places making faces look muddy or flat instead of glowing and lifted.
The 3-Swipe Method:
-
Swipe 1 — The forehead. Sweep bronzer lightly across the forehead, focusing on the centre and blending outward. This adds warmth where the sun naturally hits and instantly makes skin look healthier without looking heavy.
-
Swipe 2 — The temples. Starting at the outer corner of the lower lash line, sweep bronzer upward and out toward the hairline in one lifting motion. This follows the natural lift of the eye, elongates the lash line and creates an instant eye-lift effect — one of my favourite tricks for mature skin.
-
Swipe 3 — The cheekbones. Starting at the top of the ear, blend bronzer forward along the cheekbone, stopping in line with the outer corner of the eye. This keeps the colour exactly where it should be — on the bone, not beneath it — for a lifted, sculpted look that never looks muddy or overdone.

How to Choose Your Bronzer Shade
The golden rule: go no more than two shades deeper than your natural skin tone for a believable, natural glow.
-
Fair to light skin: Choose a warm champagne or soft golden shade. Avoid anything too orange.
-
Light to medium skin: A honey or caramel tone will add warmth without looking muddy.
-
Medium to tan skin: Rich toffee and warm brown shades add depth beautifully.
-
Deep to dark skin: A deep mahogany or bronzed brown gives a rich, glowing finish.
Not sure? The middle of our range — shades 4 and 5 — works for the widest variety of skin tones and is a great starting point.
Cream Bronzer vs Contour — What Is the Difference?
These two products are often confused, but they do very different jobs:
-
Bronzer adds warmth and mimics a sun-kissed glow. It should be a warm, flattering tone placed where the sun naturally hits — forehead, temples and cheekbones.
-
Contour creates shadow and structure. It uses a cooler, more neutral tone placed where you want to create the illusion of depth — below the cheekbone, sides of the nose, under the jaw.
For a natural, everyday look, bronzer alone is often all you need. Contour is better saved for photography, events or a more sculpted finish. And when in doubt — bronzer first, always.
Where to Place Bronzer for a Lifted Appearance
Placement is everything. Bronzer placed too low (below the cheekbone) drags the face down. Placed too high and too central, it looks like sunburn. The key areas that create lift:
-
Centre of the forehead — adds warmth and dimension where the sun hits naturally
-
The temples, swept upward from the lower lash line — creates an eye-lift effect and frames the face beautifully
-
Along the cheekbone from ear to outer corner of the eye — stays on the bone for a sculpted, lifted finish
-
Lightly on the bridge of the nose — adds a natural, sun-kissed finish
For mature skin specifically, keeping the bronzer high and blended softly is the key to looking fresh rather than heavy.
